Durban Girls’ High matriculant scores 100% for accounting

The school celebrated a 100% pass rate for its 26th year in a row.

DURBAN Girls’ High School matriculant, Maryam Mather, the Dux for 2021, graduated with an aggregate of 95 %. She achieved seven distinctions, including a score of 100 % for accounting,  98% for mathematics, 98% for life orientation, and 93% for life sciences.

Mather celebrated her success along with her peers on Friday, January 21 when she collected her results.

This year, Mather plans to study Data Analytics and Computer Science at the University of Cape Town.

While the Covvid-19 pandemic impacted Mather in her Grade 11 and Grade 12 school years, there was a silver lining for the top achiever.

“The uncertainty around Covid-19 was difficult for all learners, however, I benefited personally because I worked better independently using online resources and working at my own manageable pace,” said Mather.

Also in the top five at Durban Girls’ High School were matriculants Naomi Pillay, Calista Keilah, Alicia Potgieter and Mabaso Anele.

School principal, Erica Hayes-Hill celebrated a 100% pass rate, for the 26th year in a row.

Hayes-Hill said there were 220 learners enrolled in Durban Girls’ High School’s class of 2021.

“A total of 18 learners achieved a full house, that is seven distinctions, including our Head Girl, Sharon Adejimi who excelled despite the rigors of her leadership role. Maryam Mather was the top Accounting matriculant in KZN with 100%. Calista Naik placed fifth in the Umlazi District, with an aggregate of 94% and 95.45% of our learners achieved A, B or C aggregates. 97% of our learners achieved a Bachelor Pass,” said Hayes-Hill.
