Viral video: Social media users defend sleeping Berea cop

The video, which was posted on Facebook, claimed the officer had fallen asleep at his desk.

A VIDEO, claiming a Berea SAPS officer dozed off at his desk, has racked up more than 30 000 views on social media.

The video shared on the Facebook page, Dala U Crew, alleged that the officer was asleep at his desk.

Speaking to the Berea Mail, the eThekwini District Communication Commander, Captain Carmen Rhynes, said the matter was under investigation.

“The Berea SAPS station commander is aware of the incident and is currently looking into the matter,” said Rhynes.

Social media users were quick to share their views, many coming to the officer’s defense.  Within 24 hours, more than 220 people commented on the video, and more than 20 social media users shared the clip.

“That’s an exhausted, fed up, and probably mentally drained cop. Maybe he’s due some time off,” wrote one social media user.

“Maybe the guy is on lunch, he is entitled to nap during his lunchtime,” wrote another.
