SAPS nab eight suspects for burglary, theft, aggravated robbery

The incidents included a business robbery in Greyville, on Thursday, followed by an armed robbery on Wednesday in Berea.

EIGHT suspects will appear at the Durban Magistrate’s Court today, Friday, January 21, for various crimes.

According to SAPS spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele, the Durban Central crime prevention unit arrested eight suspects, between the ages of 24 and 39, at two different crime scenes, for burglary, theft and aggravated robbery.

Police caught four suspects red-handed during a burglary at a Lancers Road business premises on Thursday, January 20 at about 04:25.

“The suspects were arrested and charged for burglary and theft. They were also found with various items in their possession,” said Mbele.

In another incident on Wednesday, January, 19 at 19:20, police were patrolling King Dinuzulu Road when they saw four armed suspects robbing a man.

Mbele said the suspects grabbed the man and held him against a wall. When they spotted the police, the suspects fled toward Syringa Avenue. Police gave chase and arrested all four suspects.

“When searching the suspects, police found several knives, a wallet, and a black bag in their possession. These were all positively identified by the complainant as his belongings,” said Mbele.

The suspects were charged for robbery and possession of dangerous weapons.
