UPDATE: Man dies in Durban shooting, SAPS launch murder investigation

The armed suspect is still at large.

A MURDER case has been opened at the Point Police Station after a shooting in central Durban yesterday (January 13).

The acting eThekwini District spokesperson and the spokesperson for Durban Central SAPS, Captain Muzi Maphumulo, confirmed that the suspect is still at large after they opened fire outside a lodge on Dr Pixley Kaseme street.

According to Maphumulo, a man sustained a fatal gunshot wound to his head during the incident.

“The 36-year-old man was a Nigerian national. He was standing outside the lodge with two other men when the suspect approached and shot at him, twice, before walking away. The victim was shot in the head,” said Maphumulo.

The victim was rushed to a Durban hospital and was declared dead on arrival. The motive for the shooting is unknown and SAPS are investigating.

“We request anyone with information about the incident to come forward. They can call the station on 08600 1011,” said Maphumulo.
