Man robbed at knifepoint in Durban CBD, two suspects at large

Swift police work saved the day when a man was robbed at knifepoint.

TWO suspects are at large after a man was robbed of his cellphone at knifepoint in central Durban on Monday, January 10.

According to SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Zanele Khomo, Durban Central SAPS members were patrolling Durban’s CBD when they received information about a robbery on Field Street at about 20:40.

“Three male suspects robbed a man of his cellphone at knifepoint,” said Khomo.

The complainant gave a description of the suspects to police after the robbery.

“One suspect who fitted the description was spotted and was chased on foot. Police apprehended the suspect,” said Khomo.

After searching the suspect, a Huawei cellphone and a knife were found in his possession. The 25-year-old suspect was arrested for the possession of a dangerous weapon.

The suspect is expected to appear at the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, January 12.
