Robbery suspect arrested by Durban Central SAPS

Durban Central Police station reported that they are still looking for the second suspect.

A 35-YEAR-OLD man, who was arrested for allegedly stealing a cellphone in Durban, is expected to appear at the Durban Magistrate’s Court today January 10.

According to Captain Muzi Maphumulo, from Durban Central SAPS, the suspect was arrested after he is believed to have stolen a cellphone from a motorist on Anton Lembede Street in Durban’s CBD.

“The incident occurred at about 15:20 on Wednesday last week. Two suspects approached the motorist, seeking directions for the taxi rank. One of the suspects then pulled out a firearm and threatened the victim. They fled the scene on foot and stole the driver’s cellphone,” said Maphumulo.

The victim then flagged down a patrolling SAPS vehicle.

“Officers swiftly reacted and located the two men fitting the description. After a short foot chase, one of the suspects was arrested and the second evaded arrest. The cellphone was not recovered,” he said.
