Four suspects arrested in Umbilo after stop and search operation

Umbilo SAPS said one of the suspects was linked to four other crimes.

FOUR suspects were arrested and detained by Umbilo SAPS after the vehicle they were travelling in was stopped and searched in Umbilo recently.

According to Colonel Stanley Perumall of Umbilo SAPS, the suspects were found with an unlicensed 9mm pistol, ammunition, dangerous weapons and cellphones that were deemed as ‘suspicious’.

“The members of the Umbilo Task Team noticed a silver Nissan Go with four male occupants while conducting an operation. They observed the motor vehicle driving around Queensmead Mall suspiciously. They decided to do a stop and search on the occupants and the vehicle,” said Col Perumall.

He said when the members attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspects fled. This led to a high-speed chase, and the vehicle was stopped in Umbilo Road.
