DUT students prepare for Huawei ICT’s regional finals

Llale said that each of the three students were recently offered a three-month internship to prepare them for the regional finals.

THREE Durban University of Technology (DUT) students have been selected to compete in the Huawei ICT Competition Regional Finals to be held online next month.

Students, Dickson Hove, Wendy Nhleko, and Dumisani Sibanda will compete against 12 teams from various countries in the Southern African region.

This exciting news was announced at the Huawei ICT Talent Development Annual Awards ceremony online in December last year. The awards were held to award the top performing academics and instructors.

At the awards ceremony, DUT scooped the third prize in the Excellent Academy category, and its staff member, Eloge Ngoie was awarded the Excellent Instructor Award.

Hove, a second-year PhD student at DUT,  said they participated in the HUAWEI ICT competition preliminary exams during October and they excelled through hard work and dedication.

“After succeeding in the preliminary exams, most of the DUT students, myself included, were invited to participate in the HUAWEI ICT Competition South Africa National Final Exams on November 13. Through hard work, a team consisting of three DUT students, myself included, was selected to represent South Africa at the regional finals in the Huawei Cloud Track Competition,” said Hove.

He added that he believes this is one of many opportunities for DUT, as an institution, to represent South Africa during the regional and global finals.
