Denis Hurley Centre thanks donors for support

Perrier said more details of the DHC 2021 financial report will be available at the annual stakeholders meeting, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 12 at 15:00.

THE Denis Hurley Centre (DHC) expressed its thanks to various organisations for their support throughout 2021.

Raymond Perrier, the director of the centre, said those who supported the DHC did so with donations of goods, professional services and volunteer work.

“We appreciate all the support we’ve received from community members, volunteers and organisations. We went into 2021 anxious that the impact of Covid-19 would make for a very difficult economic environment. We were especially concerned since so many of our donors are churches and other religious congregations have seen their own income hit hard by successive lockdowns,” he said.

Perrier added that the DHC was unable to host any fundraising events due to the Covid-19 protocols last year and that the July unrest dealt a blow to the Durban economy.

“While we are always confident that ‘The Lord will provide’, we must also be realistic about the situation around us. We are delighted to report that we were actually able to achieve, and slightly surpass, our fundraising budget for 2021 of R5.24m. This is equivalent to raising R14 400 every day, seven days a week. It is a credit to our many and generous donors that they were able to respond to our needs,” said Perrier.
