Three people critical after Umbilo horror crash

The eThekwini Fire Department was called to the scene to free one of the commuters from the wreckage.

PARAMEDICS arrived at the intersection of Sydney Road and Rick Turner Road to find total carnage after a T-bone accident between a truck and light motor vehicle at 01:30 on Sunday, December 19.

Garrith Jamieson, spokesperson for Advanced Life Support (ALS) Paramedics, said three people were critically injured.

“ALS Paramedics Medical Services arrived on the scene to find total carnage after a truck and a light motor vehicle collided. The driver of the light motor vehicle was still trapped in his vehicle,” said Jamieson.

Paramedics worked to stabilise the man in his vehicle while the Ethekwini Fire Department used the Jaws of Life and other hydraulic equipment to free him.

“Once free, all three patients were rushed to a nearby Durban hospital,” said Jamieson.

According to Jamieson, the driver of the truck was uninjured in the accident.
