Heroin worth R400k found in central Durban

Police received information about a drug stash in a central Durban building.

AS part of the Safer Festive Season Operation, police recovered R400 000 worth of heroin powder and capsules in a drug bust at a building on Anton Lemebede Street.

The drugs were confiscated on Monday, December 13 by police officers from the Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit.

“The team proceeded to the identified apartment where they found 2.1 million empty capsules, sealed in clear plastic bags, and heroin powder. The capsules were destined for packing and distribution of heroin in the Durban Metro area,” said SAPS spokesperson, Captain Nqobile Gwala.

Gwala noted that the recovered drugs have an estimated value of R400 000.

“The police are still searching for the suspects. Disruptive operations are still ongoing. The community in the province should expect more police visibility,” concluded Gwala.
