Glenmore Strikers seeks new players

The club offers children quality soccer coaching and a chance to play competitively.

“THE more children on the field, the less on the streets.”

This is Bev Van Der Westhuizen’s motto. She is registered as a junior coach with the South African Football Association junior coach. Van Der Westhuizen founded the Glenmore Strikers Football Club in 2020.

The junior soccer club offers children a chance to ‘score’ soccer coaching and play in league matches. The club, which is affiliated with the Durban Central League Football Association, trains at Port Natal Primary School in Umbilo on Monday and Wednesday from 16:30 to 18:00.

“I’ve been involved with soccer since 2019 and I recognised a need for an affordable soccer club in the area. A lot of the children who play here can’t afford fees at bigger clubs. I’ve brought the fees right down, just to cover the field and coaches,” said Van Der Westhuizen.

The club has just kick-started soccer training for newbies.

“Our soccer club is run with a professional approach, attracting players from across Durban, whether players are new to the game or experienced players,” said Van Der Westhuizen.

She has handpicked several coaches to help train the youngsters.

“They have many years of experience working with young children. They provide fun-filled and exciting training sessions, focusing mainly on the development and growth of each player, according to their age and strength,” she said.
