Aweh! Find out what’s popping in ‘Dubane’ this weekend

This weekend is choc-a-bloc with musical shows and markets to keep the whole family busy.

IF you are looking for something to do over the weekend, say no more – we have got music and markets galore in this week’s gig guide.  Here’s a list of events to fill up your schedule in no time – from toe-tapping music to classical tunes and stacks of stalls to browse, not to mention a moonwalking tribute show to the king of pop himself. The weekend forecast just got fabulous!

December 4

A medley of music will wow audiences as Collegians Bowling Club hosts its Music Mayhem show on December 4 and 18 from 19:00 until 22:00. The director and choreographer, Sheila Markovic will take to the stage with fellow bowlers Lynn Carolan, Carol Hollenbach, Carol Smart, Mario Markovic, Hayley Tilly, Keith Orell, Rudi Hollenbach and Graham Scouter. They will lip-synch to toe-tapping hits from the 60s to today. Proceeds from the ticket sales will support the Collegians Bowling Club. The music will be accompanied by a spectacular wardrobe to mimic the original artists. The show is presented barnyard style, in two parts, with a 30-minute interval. Take a picnic basket of snacks. Classical and Jazz recital, Songs without Words takes place at Glenwood’s newest fine music venue, Port Natal Citadel on Saturday, December 4 at 18:00. The concert will be performed in two halves: the first half is a classical programme performed by Marguerite Spies on cello and Margrit Deppe on piano. The second half will be all jazz, courtesy of the JJ Jazz Quartet. The quartet is led by Jeanjoel, a professional jazz artist and pianist. 
Port Natal Citadel is located at 455 Esther Roberts. Audiences can take along  picnic for pre-show and interval. Coffee will be on sale in the cafe. Strict Covid-19 protocols will be observed. Tickets are R100. Contact Mel 079 104 5260 or visit infor@citadel.org,za.

The I Heart Market takes place at Moses Mabhida Stadium from 08:30 to 14:00 on December 4 and 11. It promises to be bigger and better, with amazing stalls that include culinary experiences and entertainment for the whole family. Entrance is free and Covid-19 protocols must be adhered to. The Rhumbelow Theatre in Glenwood presents Michael Jackson Black or White on December 4 and 5 at 14:00. From a young age Michael Jonathan felt the magic of Michael Jackson and started mimicking his dance moves.  Tickets are R180. The Waterfall Methodist Church market will have various vendors selling their goodies as well as delicious food on Friday, December 3 and Saturday, December 4. On Friday, the market will be open from 13:00 to 20:00. On Saturday, the vendors will start selling from 09:00 till 16:00. Blue Security will provide entertainment for children.

Careways, a workshop for mentally challenged adults in Kloof, invites the public to its annual market on Saturday, December 4. The market will be held at the Kloof Country Club’s cricket grounds from 12:00 to 16:00. There will be 30 stalls, children will be entertained with games and crafts, and Father Christmas will also make a guest appearance. Delicious food and yummy treats will also be on sale.

Hatton Estate Neighborhood Watch is hosting a Christmas market at Valiant Park (40 Maurice Nichols Rd) on December 5 from 09:00 until 15:00. The market will include a children’s play area with jumping castles, face painting, sand art and toys. There will be a beverage garden, live bands and a DJ. Shoppers can browse more than 80 stalls, including some mouthwatering food options.

The Mariannhill Monastery presents a classical music programme on Sunday, December 5 at 11:30. Margrit Deppe will play the Oboe and Ralitza Macheva, the violin. Tickets at the door at the R170 and children enter for free. Safe and free parking available. The Monastery Tea Garden will be open for refreshments and light meals.
