SAPS nab suspect with unlicensed firearm in central Durban

Swift police work led to the man's arrest.

A SUSPECT will appear at the Durban Magistrate’s Court for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He was arrested by SAPS at the Brook Street taxi rank in Durban.

Spokesperson for the Durban Central SAPS, Captain Muzi Maphumulo said the Durban central tracing team members were patrolling the area on Friday, November 19 at about 23:00, when they received a tip off.

He said swift police work led to a successful arrest.

“The members reacted to the information and proceeded to Brook Street in Durban where they found a suspect, who was in a vehicle. The suspect was seated on the driver’s seat inside a Go Dutsun. The suspect, who had placed a towel on his lap, was ordered to exit the vehicle. He was found to be in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition hidden by the towel,” said Maphumulo.

The suspect could not present a licence for the firearm or ammunition. He was arrested and detained at the Durban Central police station.

He is expected to appear at Durban Magistrates court soon.
