Durban Bowling club welcomes new members
This Durban resident enjoys the challenge of the game.
WHEN Linda Nickson, a Durban-based estate agent, signed up to sponsor the Novice Pairs at the Durban Bowling Club, she did not expect to see herself on the greens.
After she was invited to play by some of the club’s members, it wasn’t long before Nickson was hooked.
“The more you play, the more you want to play,” she said.

She encouraged the community to get information about the greens.
“There’s this preconceived idea that bowls is just for older people, but it’s not and it’s actually quite a challenging game. It’s nice to get out there and have fun. I don’t play to enter any competitions, I just enjoy the camaraderie. I play at least three times a week,” she said.

She now sponsors the Breakfast Pairs as well. Nickson found a community beyond the greens in the club’s get-togethers and braais.
