Councillor tackles problem footpath

Mckenzie said councillors should be in touch with the service delivery issues in the area, understand the problems and monitor development and service delivery.

MUSGRAVE residents have, for the past two years, raised their concerns about a footpath that has become a go-to site for illegal dumping.

The footpath, situated between Musgrave Road and Essenwood Road, was also overgrown.

The new ward 31 councillor, Remona Mckenzie, recently organised a clean-up in the area.

“I’ve received several complaints about the area and the state that it was in from residents. I worked with a gentleman who works in a complex that is close by. He had seen me on site with a resident and offered to assist. It was a community effort,” she said.

Mckenzie said the pathway is used to gain access from Essenwood to Musgrave Road.

“Residents in the area could not use it because of filth and it was being used as a toilet and other things. It was a health hazard and I’m assuming people are also robbed along the pathway. I received a call from a resident who had gone away and then come back to a pleasant sight. This will be an ongoing project and I will look into other pathways that need to be cleaned up as well,” said Mckenzie.
