Fabulous reads – Finding hope in dark places

Book review - The Happiest Man on Earth by Eddie Jaku.

The Happiest Man on Earth, Eddie Jaku, Pan Macmillan, ISBN: 9781529066470

THIS is a truly inspirational story of centurion holocaust survivor, Eddie Jaku, who, despite the horrors he survived during one of the world’s greatest atrocities, decided to be the happiest man on earth.

In his book he describes living through an era where decent humans followed a fanatic like Hitler and lost their morals. Those same people became savages who performed atrocious acts against other human beings. He tells of the terrors and hardships experienced in the inhumane places that Hitler created in Buchenwald and Auschwitz.

Yet, throughout it all, he never succumbed to despair and always kept his morals intact. As Jaku said, he pushed on and did his best.

This is a story of courage, hope and perseverance. If you enjoyed The Boy in the Blue Pyjamas and Sarah’s Key, then this is definitely a book for you.
