Suspect caught red-handed with illegal firearm and ammunition

The suspect was searched when police stopped him on Queen Street in central Durban.

A SUSPECT landed in the dock after SAPS caught him, red-handed, with an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The suspect (39) is expected to appear at the Durban Magistrate’s Court today, November 10.

The spokesperson for Durban Central SAPS, Captain Muzi Maphumulo said members were patrolling the area on Tuesday, November 9 at about 20:30 when they arrested the suspect.

“Durban Central SAPS members conducted a random stop and search along Queen Street in Durban. They approached a man who was carrying a bag. Upon searching him, police discovered a firearm (9mm pistol) and six live rounds of ammunition in the bag he was carrying,” said Maphumulo.

“He failed to produce a licence. The suspect was apprehended for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition,” continued Maphumulo.

The suspect was detained at Durban Central SAPS.
