Local organisation aims to enhance education

The workshop was held in partnership with Macmillan Education and teachers from various public schools in Durban gathered to learn more.

THE Iqraa Trust, a non-profit organisation based in the heart of the Berea, is continuing its mission to educate the youth.

The organisation, formed in 1994, regularly hosts workshops that include training for teachers and parents to assist their children to excel in mathematics. The workshops take place at the Iqraa Trust Knowledge Centre located inside Hunt Road Secondary School.

At the most recent workshop, Dr Mahmoud Baker, the chairman of Iqraa Trust, opened the two programmes with valuable advice to both teachers and parents on the importance of education that addresses all social and economic challenges facing South Africa.

Dr Mahmoud Baker said, “The educators were taught how to deal with the areas in maths that need extra attention as soon as possible, in order for learners to develop sound mathematical understanding. The Maths Gaps series is an ideal support tool for parents who would like to help their children to lay a solid maths foundation and for strengthening their child’s understanding of maths in areas where they are struggling.”

In tandem with the teacher workshop, the Iqraa Trust hosted a workshop for parents, in partnership with Accelerated Learning. According to Dr Baker, the workshop aims to provide parents with a variety of skills to understand and assist their children in the education process.
