Armed gang rob man at knifepoint in Durban CBD

A gang of five suspects cornered a man on Russell street and threatened him with knives.

A GANG  of five suspects robbed a man at knifepoint in central Durban on Friday, October 29 at about 20:30.

“The complainant was walking along Russell Street when five suspects circled around him, threatening him with knives. They robbed him his cellphone and R200 cash,” said Durban central SAPS spokesperson, Captain Muzi Maphumulo.

SAPS members were patrolling Anton Lembede Street (Smit Street) When they discovered the robbery in progress at the intersection of Smit and Russell Street.

“The suspects attempted to flee when they saw the police van. The members gave chase and managed to arrest two of them. R200 was recovered. A knife was also found in possession of one suspect and seized,” said Maphumulo.

 The stolen cellphone was not recovered.

Durban Central SAPS members arrested two suspects (32 and 35) for aggravated robbery.

Maphumulo said one of the suspects was out on parole for a house robbery case.

They are expected to appear at the Durban Magistrate’s Court next week.
