Berea SAPS shares safety tips for home owners

Berea SAPS spokesperson, Captain Poobalan Naidoo said there were several arrests made and this included one arrest for assault with grievous bodily harm.

AFTER a week of arrests, Berea SAPS has shared important safety awareness tips on what to do when faced with a crime at home. 

Speaking to the Berea Mail, spokesperson for the Berea SAPS, Captain Poobalan Naidoo said it is important to know what to expect when a criminal breaks into a home.

Safety precautions for homeowners: 

  •  Ensure that all doors are locked at all times, and that windows are closed when you are not at home.
  •  Large dogs serve as a deterrent. At least one dog should be trained to sleep inside the house.
  • Do not employ casual workers without a reference.
  •  Keep copies of your employee’s identity documents (IDs).
  • Ensure that you have a good relationship with your neighbours, to support and help each other. 

Naidoo said there were several arrests made this week, including one arrest made for assault with grievous bodily harm (GBH), two for theft and driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. To more arrests were made for an undocumented person.

“There were two arrests for being in possession of property suspected to be stolen, one arrest for theft and escaping from lawful custody. In recoveries, we have recovered wheel caps and a door,” he added.
