Point cellphone thief arrested while boarding taxi

The man was found to be carrying a replica firearm.

A 29-YEAR-OLD man was arrested for armed robbery by Point SAPS on Margret Mncadi Avenue on Monday.

According to the spokesman for KZN SAPS, Colonel Thembeka Mbele, a 26-year-old woman was robbed by armed the suspect.

“The suspect robbed the victim of her cellphone and fled the scene on foot. The victim then spotted police officers and informed them of the crime. They began searching for the man, using the description they were given, and spotted him boarding a taxi,” she said.

Mbele said he was apprehended and searched.

“He was found in possession of the complainant’s cellphone and a replica firearm. The suspect was detained at the Point police station for armed robbery. He will appear at the Durban Magistrate’s Court soon,” Mbele said.
