Durban robber (21) jailed for seven years

The accused, who was denied bail, has been in custody since his arrest in February last year.

ALLEN Lucky Lushaba was sentenced to seven years imprisonment for robbery after he stole a cellphone and more than R500 cash, at knifepoint, in central Durban last year.

The spokesperson for the Durban Central SAPS, Captain Muzi Maphumulo said the accused was sentenced on September 13 at the Durban Magistrate’s Court.

“Lushaba, aged 21, was found guilty and was sentenced to seven years imprisonment for robbery. The accused was also declared unfit to possess a firearm,” said Maphumulo.

According to Maphumulo, the robbery took place on January 26, 2020 at 20:00.

“A complainant was walking along Warwick Avenue when he was approached by the accused, who threatened him with a knife and took all of his belongings. A cellphone and R550 cash. No injuries were sustained by the complainant during the robbery,” said Maphumulo.

The accused, who was denied bail, has been in custody since his arrest.

“The accused was arrested on February 1 along Lancers Road in Durban after being identified by complainant,” he added.

Colonel G. Parumasur, the acting station commander of Durban Central, said he was pleased with the conviction.
