Drugs worth over 450k recovered in raid

"An intensive search of the premises led to the recovery of approximately 1,2kgs of suspected cocaine powder," said SAPS spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele.

MEMBERS of the Provincial drug and firearm unit recovered suspected cocaine powder estimated at R450 000 from a building in the Point area on Friday, September 17.

This after finding heroin and cocaine valued at R12 000 at a central Durban park near the Saint Andrews Street taxi rank on the same day.

According to SAPS spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele, the drug bust formed part of an ongoing operation by the police to root out drug trafficking.

“One man who was searched, (at a park in Durban) was found in possession of 260 plastic loops of heroin, 30 pieces of rock cocaine and 47 capsules of heroin. The drugs are valued at approximately R12000. He was detained at the Durban Central police station for further processing,” said Mbele.

Following the arrest, members proceeded to a building in the Point area.

“An intensive search of the premises led to the recovery of approximately 1,2kgs of suspected cocaine powder in a hidden compartment at the building. The drugs are valued at approximately R450 000. Further investigation is continuing to identify the supplier,” said Mbele.

The suspect (42) will appear at Durban Magistrates Court facing possession and dealing in drugs charges.
