WATCH: Truck erupts into flames in Glenwood

Resident, Bruce Soutar said he has been advocating to prevent truck drivers using the narrow residential roads in Glenwood.

A TRUCK burst into flames on Mazisi Kunene Road in Glenwood at about 12:30 on Saturday, September 18.

Bruce Soutar who lives on the road, said he could not access his driveway due to the flames.

He said he has been advocating to prevent truck drivers using the narrow residential roads in Glenwood for years.

“It’s sad that we need death and mayhem to get the attention of the authorities. This is a good example of why we need the trucking issue to be resolved. The tuck’s load was exploding,” he said.

“There are huge issues with trucks on Mazisi Kunene Road because trucks go up the road and then get stuck. This is quite a steep hill, and it’s not a truck route. The general consensus is that truck drivers utilise GPS which directs them on this route as a shortcut to get to where they are going. Previously, I asked for a sign to be installed. The sign was removed after a car accident and then a massive truck got stuck, which prompted me to request another sign,” said Tembe.
