A MAN was robbed by armed suspects when he tried to order an e-hailing taxi in the Point area. Police responded swiftly to the scene as gunshots were fired by one of the suspects.

“Two policemen nearby heard the shots and were on the scene immediately. They apprehended the suspect who was in possession of the complainant’s phone. The suspect with the firearm continued to fire shots towards the police, who in return fired back at the suspect. According to Rhynes, the complainant was waiting for a taxi on the corner of Prixley Kaseme and Mahatma Gandi Road when his attackers opened fire.

“After some time waiting for the taxi, he decided to take out his Samsung A30 to make a call and book an Uber instead. While talking on the phone, suddenly two males approached him and one of them pointed a firearm at him while the other grabbed his Samsung phone out of his hand. He immediately fought the suspect who took his phone but the armed suspect shot in his direction,” said Rhynes.

The complainant’s phone, valued at R8000, was recovered and one suspect was apprehended.
