Elderly residents celebrate Christmas in July

Francesca Joseph, partnerships coordinator for Nazareth House Durban, said they had 33 residents.

THE elderly residents at Nazareth House Old Age Home in Berea celebrated Christmas in July with a delicious lunch and entertainment.

One of the residents Cynthia O’Mahoney, said she had been at the house for nearly six years.

“We have been very happy here, very comfortable although we would have loved to be freer but because of Covid-19 we can’t do anything about it. I would like to thank the house for organising the gifts and the event. I am very happy,” said O’Mahoney.

Another resident, Father Isaac Khanyile, said he had been at Nazareth House for two years and grateful for the support they receive.

“We really appreciate the support, we feel at home and relaxed and we are well taken care of here. It is very good of the house to host this party, we didn’t expect it, this is a nice surprise,” said Khanyile.

“This event is part of keeping the residents excited and entertained as well. For July, our theme is Christmas in July, where we set out our dining room, decorate with Christmas trees and each resident gets a little gift pack as well which we give to them as a Christmas gift,” said Joseph.
