Experts share advice on how help children process trauma

The session will be streamed on the SADAG Facebook page on Friday, July 30 at 13:00.

THE South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) will host a live Q&A session on how to help children cope with trauma.

The session will be streamed on the SADAG Facebook page on Friday, July 30 at 13:00.

During the session, Clinical Psychologist, Candice Cowen, and Occupational Therapist, Marele Venter, will unpack how to help children cope with trauma and explore the signs and symptoms that parents, teachers and caregivers can watch out for.

In a statement, SADAG said mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and job stress are common, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Mental illness and the challenges associated with it has a direct impact on workplaces through increased absenteeism and overall reduced productivity. Although mental disorders can be treated quite effectively, very few South Africans seek treatment for these issues and face stigma and discrimination instead,” said SADAG.
