Four suspects arrested in Berea with stolen IT equipment

According to police, the complainant said his property, which was valued at about R400 000, was being sold on Facebook Marketplace for R11 000.

A TIP-OFF from the owner of a computer warehouse, coupled with the swift action from Berea SAPS and PT Alarms officers, led to the arrest of four suspects who were found with stolen IT equipment in their possession. 

According to Captain Poobalan Naidoo, spokesperson for Berea SAPS, the owner of a computer warehouse company in New Germany called the community service centre. Speaking to Capt T Naidoo, the complainant said that his warehouse was broken into between July 13 and 14. He said his property, which has unique identification marks and is valued at about R400 000, was being sold on Facebook Marketplace for R11 000.

“A meeting with the seller was set up at a garage in Essenwood Road, Musgrave. Captain T Naidoo contacted Sgt N Pillay and his crew Cst SE Tiembe and set up an operation to arrest the seller which was done. Three others were arrested and the property was recovered. The complainant positively identified his property,” said Cpt Naidoo.

Police reports revealed that, prior to their arrest, the suspects were traveling in a silver Toyota Corolla on Stephen Dlamini Road with the equipment which was believed to have been looted during the recent unrest.
