Sassa warns clients about fake grant post

According to Sassa spokesperson, Sandy Godlwana, no applications of the special Covid-19 SRD grant will be made via telephone, email, or USSD.

SOCIAL grant beneficiaries are urged to be cautious of a WhatsApp message that states qualifying beneficiaries can apply for the R350 grant. The message also contains a WhatsApp number and a USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data). 

The fake message comes hours after President Cyril Ramaphosa announced yesterday, July 25, that the R350 Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD) will be reinstated until March 2022.

“Sassa warns clients not to provide personal information to unknown sites. This information is fake and does not come from Sassa. No applications of the special Covid-19 SRD grant will be made via telephone, email, or USSD. Details and dates on which the application system reopens will be announced soon,” said Godlwana.
