Tafta appeals for food donations following unrest

Tafta divisional manager, Prevashni Naidu, said they are trying to ensure that the elderly, who aren’t physically strong enough to stand in queues for hours or have transport to get to the shops, have enough food and essential items to get them through the week.

FOLLOWING a week of devastation and destruction in KZN, The Association for the Aged (Tafta) is seeking assistance for the elders in its care.

Tafta divisional manager, Prevashni Naidu, said they are trying to ensure that the elderly, who aren’t physically strong enough to stand in queues for hours or have transport to get to the shops, have enough food and essential items to get them through the week.

“While Tafta can assist our frailer elders, who are unable to cook, through an outsourced catering company. We have a large component of elders who aren’t physically strong enough to stand in queues for hours, or don’t have transport to get to the shops to secure food during this difficult time,” said Naidu.

Unfortunately, Naidu said these challenges are compounded by the fact that Tafta homes, like many other aged care facilities, remain in hard lockdown due to the Covid-19 risks faced by older people currently.
