ONE suspect was arrested after robbing a man at gunpoint at a shopping centre in the City centre on Saturday at around 14:00.
Another suspect, involved in the robbery, fled the scene.
Capt Muzi Maphumulo, spokesperson for Durban Central SAPS, said the complainant chased the suspects.

“He managed to apprehend one of the suspects who happened to be in possession of the firearm that was pointed at him during the robbery. The suspect was searched and found with one firearm in his jeans,” he said.
“Members placed the suspect under arrest and informed him of his charges. Upon further inspection of the firearm it was established to be a gas gun,” added Maphumulo.
According to Maphumulo, SAPS members were performing foot duties in the area when they heard screaming coming from the undercover parking area.

“When the three officials reached the commotion (two men) approached them and informed them that a complainant was robbed by two suspects,” said Maphumulo.
On the same day, Durban Central SAPS also arrested eight people for contraventions related to the Disaster Management Act, said Maphumulo.
“Durban Central conducted special operations focusing on curfew compliance,” he added.
