CLEAN ponds, blooming flowers and scenic views are what residents can expect to find at the recently transformed Sunken Gardens at the Beachfront Amphitheatre.

Concerns about the state of the gardens were raised a year ago and now residents say they have been left speechless after viewing the beautiful changes that have been implemented at the spruced up gardens.

Residents, Anna Accolla and Denise Bouah visited the site last week and said they were impressed to see clean ponds and flowers blooming.

According to Accolla, the gardens have been restored to its former glory.

“I have a photo of myself as a two-year old with my dad pushing me in a pram in this garden. It brought me joy to see that the garden has come back. We need this to get Durban blooming again for tourists,” said Accolla.

“Initially, in August last year, we were disappointed to see how dirty the garden was, but they started cleaning it. We were so pleasantly surprised to see how beautiful it looks now.

“All the beautiful flowers they planted, come summer it is going to look absolutely marvelous. However, the disappointment is our citizens,” said Bouah.

She added that the municipality can only do as much as they can, but citizens need to do their part and keep Durban beautiful to attract tourists.

“Durban is a tourist destination. The weather is beautiful, we have stunning winter weather, we have people coming from other provinces, it’s a disappointment to them to see how dirty the City is,” she said.
