Sign up for free circumcision this Youth Month

“All eThekwini men aged between 15 and 49 need to step up and do their bit in the fight against HIV. Getting circumcised and then promoting circumcision to their friends is one easy thing we can all do. Our voice matters. The youth are not just the leaders of tomorrow, we too, can be the leaders of today, ” said Ndlovu.

A SOUTH African non-profit health organisation is encouraging young men to make healthy lifestyle decisions by choosing circumcision this Youth Month.

Population Services International (PSI) offers assistance with the aim of providing health solutions and measures through improved access to quality healthcare.

Phakamani Ndlovu speaks about the importance of circumcision.

Speaking to Berea Mail, Phakamani Ndlovu, PSI’s District Demand Generation Coordinator, said one of the services offered by the organisation include Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) which helps fight against cervical cancer, penile cancer and STIs including HIV.

Ndlovu added that his passion for the cause started in 2011 when he underwent a free circumcision at McCord Hospital.

“After the procedure, I posted on the hospital’s Facebook page to commend the staff for their professionalism and for the awesome service. We know that voluntary medical male circumcision reduces transmission of HIV by 60% in both men and women and it even reduces the chance of getting cervical cancer in all women,” he said.
