Six suspects arrested for Umbilo business robbery

The suspects, aged between 28-34, were travelling in a white Polo with false number plates.

 
OFFICERS from the Umbilo SAPS Trio Task team foiled a planned business robbery on Thursday.

Information received from a reliable source on Thursday allowed police to stop the suspects in their tracks prior to the incident. 

Captain Pumzile Makaula from Umbilo SAPS, said it is alleged that on Thursday, 10 April, at around 17:30, police were alerted by a reliable source about a planned business robbery.

“It is alleged the suspects had planned to commit numerous business robberies in Umbilo, one of them being at a bottle store at a mall. Members were deployed accordingly and the suspects were intercepted on Bartle Road, Umbilo,” she said.

 
 
Makaula said the six suspects, aged between 28-34, were travelling in a  white Polo VW vehicle with incorrect number plates.

“It is alleged that a chase ensued between the police and the suspects and the suspects were cornered on ZK Mathews and Danpienaar Street,” she added. 
 
Makaula confirmed the suspects were found with three unlicensed firearms and live ammunition in their possession along with house-breaking implements.
