Four suspects nabbed after robbing man at knifepoint

According to reports, the suspects had earlier robbed a man at knifepoint. 

FOUR suspects were arrested on Wednesday, 2 June at 3.30am when their vehicle was spotted on Umngeni Road by police officers.

According to reports, the suspects had earlier robbed a man at knifepoint.

Police were searching for the vehicle after the victim reported the incident to officers who were patrolling nearby.

Commenting on the arrest, provincial spokesperson for the SAPS, Captain Nqobile Gwala said, “Durban Central SAPS responded to a complaint of robbery and they swiftly arrested four suspects aged between 20 and 28 years. The suspects are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court (on Thursday).”

Gwala said Durban Central police officers were conducting patrols along Matthews Meyiwa Road in Durban when they were flagged down by a security officer.

“The police officers were informed by the victim that he had been recently robbed at knifepoint by three males who later jumped into a vehicle,” added Gwala.

Police searched for the identified vehicle.

“The suspect’s vehicle was spotted at 3:30am travelling along Umngeni Road and it was intercepted. Four suspects were found in a vehicle and they were searched. Upon searching them, they were found in possession of complainant’s cellphone. A knife, suspected to be used in the commission of the robbery, was also seized from the suspects,” said Gwala.

All four suspects were arrested for robbery as well as possession of a dangerous weapon.

The vehicle that was used by the suspects was impounded by police for further investigation.

The recovered cellphone was returned to the lawful owner.
