City set to train youth through development programme
Applicants who meet the criteria are invited to apply for the three-year programme.
AS part of its Artisan Development Programme for Unemployed Youth, eThekwini Municipality will train more than 1000 unemployed youth as artisans over the next three years.
Youth interested in joining the programme can apply online or manually.
Applicants will be required to undergo various pre-assessments as part of the recruitment process.

Youth will be trained in trades such as bricklaying, plumbing, carpentry, welding, electrical, mechanical fitting, boiler making, auto electrician, motor or diesel mechanic and air-conditioning and refrigeration.
According to head of the eThekwini Municipal Academy (EMA), Dr Mpilo Ngubane, the City remains committed to empowering the youth through vocational guidance, skills programmes, bursaries, and student debt relief.
“Unemployment among the youth, especially graduates, continues to be a challenge in eThekwini. EMA is often considered as a go-to place for students and the unemployed by offering suitable candidates skills training programmes, bursaries, job shadowing, in-service training, and internships,” he said.

Sydenham electrical engineering student, Thobile Cele benefitted from a EMA programme which she said ignited a spark within her.
Cele applied to be part of EMA Electrical Apprenticeship Programme which she started in 2019 and will complete in 2022.
“I have always wanted to be a qualified electrician. I am grateful to EMA for recognising my potential,” she said.
