"The victim retaliated by stabbing the suspects with a sharp object," said SAPS spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele.

THREE suspects got more than they bargained for when their victim fought back during a botched hijacking on Sunday, 16 May.

The suspects, two of whom were stabbed by the victim with a sharp object, were arrested at a Durban hospital after they fled the scene in Castle Hill Road, Newlands West.

Aged between 20 and 30, the suspects were arrested at around 8.30pm on Sunday, in a joint operation led by the Durban Central and the Provincial Crime intelligence members.

Spokesperson for the SAPS, Colonel Thembeka Mbele said Crime Prevention members were on patrol in the Durban CBD when they received a tip-off about an alleged hijacking.

“They received information about an attempted hijacking that was taking place in Castle Hill Road in Newlands West where three men tried to hijack an Uber driver,” said Mbele.

According to Mbele, the team proceeded to the hospital where three suspects were arrested, one was found with no injuries and two were seriously injured.

“A firearm with the serial number filed off was recovered. The two injured suspects are currently admitted in hospital and are under police guard,” she said.
