DA mourns loss of former councillor

"Avrille was a long-standing and well-known councillor who represented the beachfront area over many years," said the DA's Nicole Graham.

MEMBERS of the Democratic Alliance are mourning the loss of Avrille Coen who served as a DA councillor for more than a decade, from 2004 until 2016.

In a statement, DA eThekwini caucus leader, Councillor Nicole Graham said the Democratic Alliance is saddened by the passing of the former eThekwini councillor.

“Avrille was a long-standing and well-known councillor who represented the beachfront area over many years. Avrille was first elected as a councillor in 2004 and served until her retirement in 2016. Prior to that, she was a community activist who fought tirelessly for the North and South beach communities,” said Graham.

“Avrille was known for her gentle but determined manner, her kindness and generosity and her playful sense of humour. She was deeply committed to Durban and to the mission of the DA, and worked hard well into her 70s,” she added.

“The DA extends its sincerest condolences to her family and friends, especially Avrille’s beloved husband Claude – who she was married to for 58 years – and her two children,” she said.
