Police make 150 arrests in Durban central

During the operation, SAPS set up roadblocks and searched for illegal items during the operation.

IN a bid to eradicate crime, Durban Central SAPS arrested 150 people during their weekly operations in the Business Central District, Morningside and around the beachfront areas.

Durban Central communications officer, Captain Muzi Maphumulo said SAPS made arrests for various crimes.

“Police nabbed 150 people for crimes including recovery of two pistols/handguns, drug-related crimes, rape and burglary as well as road traffic contraventions and disaster management contraventions,” he said.

Maphumulo said SAPS also set up roadblocks and searched for illegal items during the operation.

“The liquor outlets were visited for compliance of curfew regulations, and illegal items were checked to ensure safety. The areas are patrolled, and sweeping is done, by removing all vagrants at non-permitted areas,” he added.

“The arrests will send a message to those who commit criminal offences, and to those who disregard curfew regulations. These operations will continue,” he concluded.
