Daredevil skater attempts to skate down Durban Tollgate Bridge

Metro police officers were driving past when they saw the skater in a precarious position.

METRO police confronted a skateboarder who attempted to skate down the concrete arch of Tollgate Bridge on Tuesday at 10am.

Spokesperson for the Metro Police, Senior Superintendent Parbhoo Sewpersad said Metro police officers were driving past when they saw the skater in a precarious position.

“He was with his father who said he is a South African skateboarding champion. It’s the most absurd thing. He was on the peak of the arch. We warned the youngster and put the father in the picture of what the consequences would be if the skater falls off the bridge and onto the highway. There would be a 98 per cent chance that he would not survive the fall,” he said.

Sewpersad said a BMX biker had once attempted the daredevil feat.

“I spoke to the city engineers about putting preventative measures in place. If anyone sees any untoward behaviour on the bridge, please don’t hesitate to call Metro police on 031 361 00 00,” concluded Sewpersad.
