Collingwood deport turns into dumping ground

There is only one truck operating in the area and another one is being fixed and this has been happening since the beginning of the pandemic.

COLLINGWOOD depot is slowing turning into a dumping site due to the lack of service trucks.

According to Ward 33 councillor, Mmabatho Tembe, the Cleansing and Solid Waste (DSW) service truck issues began before the Covid-19 pandemic and has been ongoing since then.

“Its affecting the community and service delivery. There is only one truck operating in the area and another one is being fixed. There are Supply Chain Management (SCM) issues and delays. They have to borrow trucks from other areas but only when they are available,” said Tembe.

She said there is a lot of spillage (refuse litter left over after collection) caused by late truck pickups and vagrants going through the bags.

“Dumping of furniture and beds has also become an issue. Not enough street sweeping is being done as well,” she said. She added that they do not have an area cleansing officer in their area.

We will continue to fight for service delivery and the cleanliness of our ward as services must be rendered as rates are always paid. I will continue to follow up with DSW,” said Tembe.
