Lace up and run the course

Kim Jackson encourages residents to participate in the next Run the Course event.

BEREA resident, Kim Jackson, is encouraging Durbanites to lace up and ‘run the course’ in the upcoming run/walk around the Durban Country Club’s picturesque golf course on 26 April.

The Run the Course event, which is held on a monthly basis, aims to inspire participants to adopt a healthy lifestyle while absorbing Durban’s scenic views.

Speaking about the initiative, Jackson, who has completed 25 Comrades Marathon races said, “We have had seven runs so far. People have fun and its safe. Everyone is welcome to join. The DDC will be turning 100 next year and we are hoping to have a defiant 21km event.”

When asked about the benefits of participating in the event, Jackson, who participated in last year’s Comrades Marathon to raise funds for the Bright Eyes Centre for Visual Impaired Children said, “You can see that everyone comes in grumpy and uptight. After this run, it’s like magic, they come back with rosy cheeks, all their worries for the day get washed away and its amazing to see.”

The event is a timed trail run or walk around the scenic golf course. The options are a 4km (run and walk) or 8km (runners only). Participants are encouraged to carry their own water or energy drinks. For more information on the event, or to participate, visit https://www.durbancountryclub.co.za/run-the-course/.
