Police find woman’s body at Durban’s Bay of Plenty

The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated, said SAPS.

THE lifeless body of a woman, believed to be in her 50s, was found just off the Durban coast.

Durban Metro Search and Rescue recovered the body on Tuesday evening (13 April), near a Durban pier at the Bay of Plenty.

Spokesperson for Metro Police, Senior Superintendant Parboo Sewpersad said the matter is under investigation.

“We are not sure what the circumstances were, whether she was thrown off the pier, if she fell or if she committed suicide,” he said.

Parboo said the woman was declared dead on the scene.

“The deceased has not been identified,” he added.

According to Sewpersad, the woman was found partially dressed just off the shoreline.

The woman is believed to be in her 50s, said KwaZulu-Natal SAPS spokesperson, Captain Nqobile Gwala.

“The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated and an inquest case was opened at the Durban Central police station,” she said.
