WATCH: Beach goers ‘paws’ at the site of this Morningside surfer

MORNINGSIDE surfer Brandon Ribbink had made waves in the Durban surf when he paddled out to sea with his equally wave-crazy ‘furkids’ enjoying the ocean as much as him.

Ribbink shared a smile-inducing video that shows the surfer in the North Beach surf on a stand-up paddleboard with his pet dog, a Boxer named Diesel on board.

While the surfer usually has Diesel and his dachshunds, Fiji on board, this time, his wife, Dany Ribbink took to the waves with the smaller dog on her board.

“Dany went out with the dog for the first time,” said Ribbink.

He said the video of him and Diesel was taken at Durban’s North Beach on Monday.

“I’ve been surfing since I was about seven years old. Our dogs were playing around in the pool one day and as I was watching them I thought they would enjoy surfing. I took our Boxer, Diesel for his first surf about six years ago,” said Ribbinks.

Having his furkid on board makes waves in the surf.

“I’ve had more photos taken when I’ve got the dogs on my boards – more photos than I’ve ever had taken of me,” said Ribbink.

He takes his dogs out about twice a month.

“My dog aged during lockdown when we couldn’t go to the beach. He loves it. I try and get him in the water about twice a month. He is the best dog in the world. It’s quite an experience, there’s a lot of responsibility to have a dog on board and to take him out in the water. It’s not his usual environment, but the Boxer breed loves being with people he feels left out if I leave him at home. He loves the cart ride and the whole experience,” said Ribbink.

“It was very challenging in the beginning. I had to dig deep to find all the skill I could acquire. You have to balance with the dog on board and paddle with an extra 35 kgs on board. It’s a proper work out,” he added.
