THREE suspects are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court soon for robbery and attempted theft of a vehicle.
KwaZulu-Natal spokesperson, Captain Nqobile Gwala said, on Sunday, 5 April at 2.30pm, Durban Central police officers followed up on information regarding two men who attempted to steal a vehicle along the beach.
She said the description of the suspect’s vehicle was circulated and a search for the suspects began.
“While travelling along Snell Parade, the team observed a man who was busy tampering with another vehicle. When the suspect spotted police, he got into his own vehicle and fled the scene. Police pursued the suspect’s vehicle, which was intercepted at Pavilion Terrace. Two suspects, aged 28 and 38, were arrested for attempted theft of a vehicle. A search was conducted inside the vehicle and the police found a car breaking implement. The suspects will appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court soon,” said Captain Gwala.

She added that another incident occurred on Sunday at 9am.
“Police officers from the Durban Central Field Unit were performing their duties along Russel Street when they spotted a woman being robbed at knifepoint.
“The team alighted from their vehicle and pursued the suspect who fled upon police arrival. The police officers scaled a high fence and the suspect was subsequently apprehended. The complainant’s cellphone and a knife were seized from the suspect. The 18-year-old suspect was placed under arrest for robbery and for possession of a dangerous weapon. He will appear in court soon,” said Captain Gwala.
