Support ‘Trash and Treasure’ event

THE Bellhaven Harm Reduction Centre in Greyville will be hosting a Trash and Tresaure event on Sunday, 28 March.

THE Bellhaven Harm Reduction Centre in Greyville will be hosting a ‘Trash and Treasure’ event on Sunday, 28 March.

At this event, you will have an opportunity to donate what you might consider to be trash which will be treasured by the centre’s clients, all of whom are homeless and living below the poverty line.

The centre helps rehabilitate the lives of opiate addicts and men and women are able to visit the centre also known as the ‘African Centre for Hope’, to receive doses of methadone, an opioid used to manage pain relief and drug addiction.

Rebecca Robinson, a psychologist based at Bellhaven said she hopes the community will show up in their numbers to support the ‘Trash and Treasure’ event.

“Through the centre we’ve helped hundreds turn their lives around. On 28 March, there will be a few stalls and donation buckets and some of our clients will be performing. I think it will also be a way of raising awareness on what the centre does and show the importance of programmes like the one we run. We also hope to minimise the stigma addicts face,” Robinson said.

The centre has also asked for donations of clothing, food, blankets, stationery, and any other items that could be used.
