Help Durban Central SAPS solve rape, kidnapping case

Assistance is being sought by Durban Central police regarding a case of rape, robbery and kidnapping they are investigating.

DURBAN Central SAPS is appealing to the community for assistance in solving a case of kidnaping, rape and robbery they are investigating.

According to Sgt Zanele Khomo from Durban Central SAPS, it is alleged that on 24 February at about 11am, a woman got into a taxi, which was travelling from Queen Street to Warwick Avenue.

“When the taxi reached its destination at Warwick she asked to be dropped off. The driver asked her where exactly she was going and she told him she was going to Inanda. The driver then offered to take her to Inanda since he was also going that route,” she said.

Khomo said the taxi driver drove towards Inanda and took the off-ramp to the M19. The driver then stopped the taxi along the freeway and asked the woman for money.

“He further instructed the woman to phone her mother and ask her to send money. After that, he raped her and took her purse, cellphone and bank cards, and then dropped her on the side of the road,” said Khomo.

She said anyone with information that might assist in solving this case is urged to contact Det Const Dlani on 079 812 0486 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
