Durban blood donor achieves goals in lockdown

DEDICATED Durban blood donor, Ronnie Naidoo, recently celebrated the donation of his 100th pint of blood.

Ronnie said his journey of blood donation started in 1974.

“I donated my first pint of blood when in matric at the age of 18. I then decided as a goal to donate 50 pints by the age of 50,” he said.

However, Ronnie reached his goal by the age of 45, and decided to adjust his goal to target 100 donations by the time he turned 65.

“With odds against me such as relocation, my health, busyness of life and the lockdown, it was easy to stop or find excuses not to donate. I guess the motivation for me was that my one pint of blood can save three lives. This kept me going,” he said.

Ronnie thanked God that he recently achieved his personal goal. “May I take the opportunity to encourage others to donate blood regularly. It does not cost you. Yes, it may be a sacrifice of time or effort, but three lives depend on your one pint of blood. Your selfless effort is your reward. You even get to achieve your personal goals, even in lockdown!” he said.

In light of his milestone donation, Ronnie said he stands by the quote by Martin Luther King, Jnr – ‘Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, What are you doing for others?’

Donate life-giving blood at Musgrave Blood Donor Clinic at 29 Musgrave Road, next to the Berea Congregational Church, Pardy Gardens Road.
