Toddler dies in hospital after fall from fourth floor

"Sadly the child passed away shortly after arriving at hospital," said Shawn Herbst of Netcare 911 paramedics.

A FOUR-year-old child passed away in a Durban hospital after falling from the fourth floor window at a North Beach apartment.

Shawn Herbst, spokesperson for Netcare 911 paramedics said they responded to the scene at approximately 1.40pm on Thursday.

“Sadly the child had passed away shortly after arriving at hospital,” said Herbst.

The toddler was treated on scene by Netcare 911 Emergency Care Practitioners before being air lifted to hospital, added Herbst.

The toddler plummeted from the fourth floor window of the apartment.

“Due to the incident being time critical the patient was flown by Netcare 911 helicopter ambulance to a specialist facility for further treatment,” he added.

Herbst said the young child was in a critical condition after he plummeted from the apartment.

“Reports indicate that a four-year-old male had fallen from a fourth floor apartment landing head first on the floor below. When paramedics arrived on scene the patient was found in a critical condition having sustained serious traumatic injuries,” he said.
